Delaware Seashore Rally in August
Several members of Metropolitan were able to get away for an extended Rally at the Delaware Seashore State Park just outside of Rehoboth, DE. We had 5 rigs in attendance as well as visits from our First Couple the Whitford's.
Again, we were able to enjoy many side trips around the area and many meals together; both Pot Luck type meals and Restaurant meals near the shore. We also rented a boat for an afternoon on the water.

NEAR Rally in July 2014
In July, Metropolitan took part in the North Eastern Area Rally (NEAR) in Vermont. Thanks to the leadership of Mo and Pat Magliocchino, Metropolitan was able to take charge of the Door Prize Function and successfully hand out hundreds of gifts to rally participants.
Metropolitan had 8 rigs in attendance and many side trips and wonderful meals were shared by all.
At the event, a Chapter Meeting was held where some new Officers were selected.

Croton Rally in May 2014
A lot has gone on in 2014.
In May, we started off with a wonderful Rally in Croton Point Park. We had 6 coaches in attendance and we enjoyed walks all over the park and some wonderful campfires.

Passing of Marie Eagens
It is with a heavy heart that I must announce the passing of another member of the Metropolitan Chapter of FMCA, Marie Eagens.
Below is the announcement and information regarding services.
PEEKSKILL, N.Y. - Marie Theresa (Antunes) Eagens, a lifetime resident of Peekskill, died Monday, March 17. She was 74.
Eagens was born in Peekskill and attended local schools. She worked for many years at Genung's (Howlands) Department Store, Peekskill, as office manager, and later, as a secretary in the tax department for the Town of Cortlandt.
Eagens is survived by her husband, James Eagens of Montrose; son, Christopher; a grandson; brothers, Anthony, Fred, and Andrew Antunes; sister, Beatrice Finnerty; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are Thursday, March 20 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Dorsey-Carlone Funeral Home, 1100 Cortlandt St., Peekskill. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Friday, March 21 at Assumption Church, Peekskill, followed by interment at Assumption Cemetery, Cortlandt Manor.

President’s Message
Hi guys. Well the three H's are
upon us....Humid Hot and Hazy and only halfway through the summer. I’m loving
every minute of it.
We had a great time at Rhinebeck. The Culinary luncheon was wonderful but most importantly the company was great. It was disappointing to see such a few numbers of coaches but the few that came had a great time. Thank you Moe and Pat for a job well done.
Participation in the rallies has been really low in general. I know there are times when not everyone can make the rallies but for the people running them and setting them up, it takes time whether it be for 5 coaches or 25!!
Mal Ford is doing a great job as Wagonmaster but please help him in making his job easier.
We are loving our new home in Delaware. We never had grass before and now we’re making up for it! We hope to see some of you guys down here in Delaware in August. We can't wait.

Hi to my fellow RVers and Metropolitan members out
there. Our rallies have not been well
attended. It seems as if we have a small
core group who still get out to events, but the majority hasn’t been
participating. I have tried some new
camping locations, tried joint campouts with other FMCA Groups, but again, only
a small group attends. Maybe the second
half of the season will be better? In
August we have a joint campout with the Empire FMCA in Copake , NY Saugerties , NY West Point
in September; let’s hope that we can get some interest in that.
What can we do to help you fire up your rigs and get out to
these rallies? If there are other
locations you would prefer, other dates that work better for your schedules, or
if you just don’t camp that much anymore, let me know. This is your Club. Get involved and help us make it a fun time
for everyone.
The bottom line is we want to see you at these Rallies!

Musings:
Reality Check

I am sure that all of you have
seen the numerous emails on the internet regarding the influx of illegal
immigrants and the various proposals the government has come up with to resolve
this issue.
The reality is that this
country would literally fall apart if these individuals were deported since
they now do all the manual labor that we all used to do, and at reasonable
rates, minus benefits.
Ninety five percent of all the
fast food restaurants would have to shut down, people would have to learn how
to use a lawn mower and hedge trimmers again. The Italians would have to go to
masonry school to learn the trade that is legendary to their nationality. Not
to mention learning how to make pizza again or bake Italian bread. Having worked in construction all my life, I have
witnessed how these individuals now do all the really hard jobs that no one
else wants to do, and they do it in all kinds of weather and conditions like
extreme heat or pouring rain. Also bad news for the woman who would have to
learn how to do house cleaning once more, and figure out how to use the washing
machine and vacuum. Who is doing all the less than pleasant jobs in our
hospitals and apartment houses, or department stores that require janitorial
services, etc.
None of this is anything new,
just history repeating itself.
I would venture to say that not many of us can
trace our roots back to Sitting Bull, rather some ethnic group that came to
this country via some kind of ship, and usually in steerage class. The only
difference was that they didn’t have to swim the Rio Grande River, or float
onto the southern shores on a rubber tube.
Our immigrant relatives faced
the same problems that we see now facing this country. Many of them received
welfare. Back then they called it relief and my mom used to talk about many of
her friends being on it because it wasn’t anything to be proud of in those
days. I am sure that there were a proportionate number of criminals included in
the ranks, but the good ones survived and made this great nation what it is
today.
So take a deep breath, relax
and just hope that a meteorite doesn’t hit us again. The rest really doesn’t
matter.
Ok, have to run to the bank before it closes, our
cleaning lady comes tomorrow, and she only takes cash.
