Hi members,
I am sorry to say that our good friend Tony Patane has passed away. He was wonderful to everyone, treated everyone with respect and we all loved him very much. He was instrumental in having me elected as president of the Metropolitans. He will be missed by all of us. Our heartfelt condolences go out to his widow, Rose.
I hope everyone had a good summer. Due to Carol being sick, we couldn’t attend too many rallies but we did travel to Delaware often. At this point our newly built house is ready for occupancy and we will be closing on 9/14. My wish is to have a rally right in my own backyard, so to speak, because we now have enough property to do that. Our house is located in the quaint little town of Lewes, Delaware. I will include more detail soon.
More good news is that our son, Chris, who has been in Afghanistan for a year was released of his duties there and will be stationed back in our good old, safe United States.
I am sorry to say that Evelyn and Mike Gravino have decided to give up their motor home but I hope this is not good-bye but that we will continue to see them whenever possible. Because of this reason we now need a new wagonmaster. If anyone is interested in this position please contact me at MRWIFF@VERIZON.NET.
Carol and I wish you all healthy and safe travels. See you at Croton and the Christmas Party.
Roger Whitford

OUR FRIEND TONY
We joined Metropolitan in 1998. It was a rally held at Lone Oaks CG in East Canaan, Ct.
We met a lot of people there and started friendships that continue to this day. We met Tony and Rose Patane and eventually his brothers Rudy and Frank later on in Macungie, PA. Tony and I shared a lot of similarities, our love for cars, our Italian heritage, our love of good home cooking, (and wives that prepare them) and of course, motorhoming.
I always compared him to Julius Caesar, because of his small stature but powerful character.
We enjoyed a lot of good times together, ate a ton of Italian food, and got to enjoy each other’s families.
The things that stand out in my mind are the good times. We traveled to Florida together several times. We actually got Rose behind the wheel of the motorhome once. We pulled into a campground in the dark, in Virginia. He missed a turn and ended up with the car and motorhome jackknifed up against a tree. We could hear Rose verbally abusing him, even though we were 500 feet away. He helped me install flooring at our daughter’s house and he offered me lots of financial advice. He was always only a phone call away, no matter what the situation, and always had a solution, no matter what the problem.
We got to share his 80th birthday where I even got to sit on his lap (dressed as a hooker of course), and enjoyed this special event with him and his family.
He was one of the rat pack that got me elected club president without me being aware that I was even running!
He was in Columbia Presbyterian at the same time as Pat, so we were together in less pleasant times, and got to cry on each other’s shoulders.
I know that he is watching over all of us now, so we all have an advocate up above. I am sure he is offering the Good Lord some sound financial advice, maybe sell him a life insurance policy, share a good Cuban cigar, a glass of wine, and perhaps a group insurance plan for the staff.
I miss you buddy.
